Frequently Asked Questions
What is your availability like for in-home, private lessons?
Availability can fluctuate based on the student’s location and my current teaching schedule. In-person lesson spots are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
I don’t use a cookie-cutter method or teach from a book. Each lesson is built around the student in front of me. Their personality, goals, musical taste, and pace. I teach my students exactly the songs they want to learn, while still reinforcing the fundamentals: technique, rhythm, chords, theory, ear training, and improvisation.
What makes your lessons different?
Do students get performance opportunities?
Yes. Students have opportunities to perform in spring and fall recitals with a live band made up of musicians from my personal network. Each student chooses a song they’re excited about, and I personally play guitar alongside them on stage so they feel supported throughout the performance. These recitals are designed to build confidence, encourage musical independence, and give students the experience of playing with other musicians, including chances to jam with each other in a supportive environment.
Does my child need any experience before starting lessons?
No. Beginners are completely welcome. Lessons are paced around each student’s starting point, whether they have never held a guitar before or already know a few songs.
Do we need to buy a guitar before the first lesson?
Not necessarily. I have a small kids guitar I can bring, and if you’re unsure what to buy, I can help you choose an age-appropriate, comfortable instrument before you spend money on the wrong guitar.
How much do guitar lessons cost?
Guitar lessons are offered through monthly lesson packages or on a lesson by lesson basis, with pricing depending on the lesson length, location, and whether lessons take place in-studio or in your home. Some families prefer shorter weekly lessons for younger beginners, while others choose longer sessions for students who are ready for deeper coaching, performance prep, songwriting, or more advanced guitar study.
Because every student is different, I recommend starting with a free trial lesson so I can learn more about the student’s goals, experience level, musical interests, and schedule. From there, I can recommend the monthly lesson package that makes the most sense for your family.
